Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy is proud to present Master Folk Artist Atilano López Patricio, direct from Jaracuaro, Michoacán, Mexico. Don Atilano is renowned for his compositions and interpretations of his P'urhépecha traditions, native to Michoacan.
Since 2000, Los Cenzontles have studied sones abajeños (danced rhythms) and pirekuas (lilting love songs) from Don Atilano López Patricio. Los Cenzontles vocalists Fabiola Trujillo and Lucina Rodriguez learned to sing in the native language of P’urhépecha from Don Atilano. In turn, the members of Los Cenzontles teach this tradition to community youth here at Los Cenzontles Cultural Arts Academy.
In 2018, Los Cenzontles and Atilano López Patricio released the album Alma P’urhepecha, a collection of original pirekuas and sones. Please join us for this special evening of music and tacos!
